OOC: I'm actually waiting for Frodo to get back on so Jaid can get down from the tree. I know power play is allowed on there, but sometimes it's better to wait for the character's author.

OOC) Yes. I do agree with you there. It's a lot more fun when someone doesn't write the whole novel in one post while no body is looking. A chapter is fine, but not the whole thing.

"No. I do not make deals with strangers. I just want to find my cousins, not save a kingdom. It does not seem to need saving at the moment anyway." I looked towards the creature again. "Just tell me where they went if you know, please." The creature was gentler than the girl. Maybe he would tell me where my little charges were. I did not want deals with devils. These strangers were interesting. But now I realized that they had the potential to be dangerous, even if they did not mean to be. "You...you bring trouble of sorts, do you not? Is it your intention or is simply the way things are?"

"Well, I do not know whether or not it is in my nature to bring trouble. This is the first time I have ever left my mountain glen. I am just a teacher. That is all I know about myself, other than my past, but this is te present, and things are different now. I would be glad to help you find your cousins. Let me ask..." He turned his face into the wind, rain forced his eyes shut. The wind seemed to whisper, but the others couldn't understand it. "They're this way, follow me." He loped off into the rainy dark.

With a glance at the girl, who remained silent, I sprinted after him. I would have been reluctant to follow, but I was tired of being in the rain, and desperately needed to find my cousins. I was just glad that he had not pressed me into going with them to wherever they were headed.

Sincere and I had been following the creature for a while in silence. I wondered what the stranger was thinking about. She seemed distant. I turned back towards the direction of the village, and realized just how far into the woods we had gone. The girls would usually never venture this far. What could have prompted them to do so this one time?

I was cold. And wet. And was completely sure that I would have a cold or fever within a few days. And so would Sincere and if the creature got sick, so would he. I still had caught no glimpse of anything that even hinted at two young children playing.

The wind led him ferther and farther from town. He slowed, confused and turned to the wind again. "Keep going" the wind whispered, "they are in trouble" He quickened his pace. After a few more strides he halted, his wet fur bristling. There ahead was a slave caravan. A large man was forcing two young children into a cage cart. "I found them." he announced.

Just as Sincere demanded, "What's the plan?" the man saw us. "Whadda ya lot want? An' wha's the scraggly thing? Do'e work? I'll pay for 'em, ifin he do." I glared at the man. "My friend is NOT for sale, and you will unhand my cousins NOW, good sir." The man guffawed. "I got me a fiesty one, I'sees. Friends o' me own isin close abouts. I wudda beed mannerlike ifin you'd ha' paid me. Bu' we co' takes ya too. Getta swell price for ya two gals." My eyes narrowed. If I had to strangle the lout with my own hands, I would. And I could punch much harder than appearances let one. For reasons I'd rather not go into.

Suddenly we were surrounde by more slavers.

So Sincere paid them. I bit my tongue hard enough that I could taste blood. Once we had my cousins and were on our way back, I could not keep silent anymore. "You paid them. You paid them quite a lot." "Yes," she said calmly. "I paid them." "Why should you pay for people? They're worth more than money. And they were stolen. Should you not steal them back?" The girls were silent. I had assured them that I was not angry with them, but they did not seem convinced. "It's alright, Elly." The child eyed the creature (I cannot pronounce it, therefore I call him creature) mistrustfully. He smiled. "She speaks the truth little one. I will not hurt you." Again Elly looked at him, but more out of curiousity than fear. Tottering over to him, she grabbed at his fur. Jane scowled and maintained her distance, sullen.

The young girl climbed onto his back. He looked at Tad. "If we had tried to steal them back instead of paying for them, we would most likely have ended up in a cart along side them, and then separated from them and eachother when we were sold. We probably would have done more harm than good. Savery isn't right. But making yourself a slave as well is not a way to stop it."

I shot a glare back in the direction of the slavers, then sighed. "I know. I just do not like it. Forgive me for my wayward tongue."

As we neared the village, I paused. "Umm...do you think...I mean...the villagers...you're not exactly human...no offense.." I floundered around, looking for the right words.
